About the Meeting
The scientific programme is exciting and varied. Our keynote speakers are of international standing and come from a wide range of disciplines, reflecting the interests of both societies. The science presented at the meeting should be enlightening and stimulating for both clinical and basic scientists.
Scientific sessions: The meeting will feature sessions on: challenges faced by osteocytes and chondrocytes; relationships between the vasculature and the skeleton; cancer and bone; skeletal development and dysplasias; extracellular matrix and matricellular proteins in health and disease; innovative imaging methods for bone & cartilage; cutting-edge techniques in bone & cartilage research.
Clinical sessions: For clinicians, there are educational sessions throughout the meeting, but particularly for younger rheumatologists on Monday, 15 June. This will feature a full day clinical programme running in parallel with the scientific sessions. There will be updates on new treatments, clinical cases and the latest research on the pathogenesis of osteoporosis, as well as an innovative series of ‘Bone Consults’ in which you can match your practice to a clinical academic in a number of different situations. The meeting is approved for CPD by the Royal College of Physicians under Event Code 47109. There are 15 credits available for full attendance with a maximum of 6 per single day.
New Investigator Session: A New Investigator Session (extremely popular at the 2008 BRS-BORS meeting in Manchester) will feature talks on career development and funding by some of the major providers in our field.
Networking and Poster Sessions: A key component of the meeting will be the extensive opportunities for informal discussion and for poster viewing, including an extended reception on the evening of Monday, 15 June.
As well as all this, you will be able to ‘Meet-the-Professor-in-the-Pub’! This novel and uniquely British concept will enable you to discuss your research with key experts in an informal, convivial setting; ad-hoc ‘bar-side’ discussions will take place in local pubs, each of which will be ‘themed’ according to key subject areas. Afterwards, you will be able to explore the amazingly diverse café/bar/restaurant/gastropub/club scene in Central London using our specially-compiled guide – with recommendations that will suit all pockets and tastes.
