Articular surface cells harvested from embryonic chick joints were labelled for pericellular hyaluronan using a biotinylated G1-binding probe and fluorescent tag. A cell is seen here secreting an expanse of hyaluronan-rich matrix

Primary fibroblasts assemble microfilament bundles (red; phalloidin) terminating at paxillin-containing focal adhesions (green) in response to signalling from the extracellular matrix. The fibronectin matrix is stained blue.
